There are so many reasons why your business needs a website, especially if you work solely online. Creating a website doesn’t have to be as hard or complicated as people think and it is a key tool that will immediately take your business to the next level!

You Own it (period). You don’t own any other space on the internet and thus you technically don’t have ultimate control. You don’t own your social media accounts. And even though while for now many platforms like Instagram and Facebook are pretty reliable, you can’t control the layout, the structure of the information, or how people consume it. Having a website gives you a secure place on the website to drive and guide people to that you control 100%! This means you can truly clearly communicate what you want and need specific to your business. Ultimately controlling your information and brand through a website helps establish yourself and your business further and provides security.

2. Visibility

A website is, in its simplest form, another platform to increase your visibility online. You interact with people on social media platforms and other sites but those spaces can be very crowded. Having a website as a home base to drive people too can increase your visibility and capture people’s focus – which is so important in the age of constant updates and social media.

Most people do research online before making a purchase or decision, whether it be with products, people, or services. People are naturally curious and want to know more about you and your services. And if they are interested, they don’t want to have to ask or wait for answers, especially if they are “just lurking (or looking).” When there are many options and things fighting for their attention, you need to make it EASY for people.

3. Competition

You can beat the competition. When you pitch yourself for a position or are being compared to other people in your field, your website is often the first impression people have about you, your brand, and your business. You want it to be polished, professional and accurately relay your message and services. When you have a website that makes people say WOW, they are going to remember you and it could mean you getting more clients than the next person.

4. Credibility

Having a website is a commitment. This is also part of why having a website establishes credibility. It positions you as someone who is serious and committed enough to what they are doing to invest time and energy into their business and online presence. If done well, a good website shows a clearly laid out strategy and thought process which can showcase your intellectualness as well as a level of expertise in your industry.  It also provides a platform for you to showcase your work through a portfolio, features/collaborations, a podcast, a blog etc.

5. It will save you time

Having a website provides a central place on the internet that is accessible 24/7 with your information, packages, and pricing on it. This will save you time from having to answer emails and messages to convey this basic information to people. It will also provide clarity into what you offer and thus prevent you from dealing with people who inquire about unrelated things to what you offer. Similarly, it might also convince people who are on the fence to purchase your services/products without you ever having to hop on a call with them or message them. It can also improve customer service by having a place to contact you, FAQs, and a central point where people can rely on having all the information they need about you and your business.

6. It will help you make more money

A good website is set up with the customer experience in mind and leads people through a process and a journey. This may take some work on the front end but overall it will serve you 10 fold by attracting and keeping people on your website and drawing them further into your funnel. Therefore, eventually making you more money. You can also capture leads, make connections or make direct sales on your site, typically all without you needing to be present.

Most people research a business online before buying from them whether it be a product or service. If you don’t have an online presence, especially one where you can clearly convey the information that people are looking for, you will lose out on customers every day!

7. It’s not as hard or expensive as you think

Creating a beautiful looking website that truly feels like you and WOW’s your audience does NOT have to cost an arm and a leg and it is not as hard as you think. Although hiring a designer to build a custom website to meet your specific needs and strategies is a smart idea, when you are starting out you often don’t have the funds or clarity to do that. However, WordPress and Squarespace templates are still pretty “techy” and frustrating to set up yourself.
